How to increase earnings on the internet

In today’s internet world where an estimated 20,000 new websites are creating every day, making – and more importantly – maintaining a website that pays you well is a great challenge. But then there ARE people who earn on the internet and then there are those who earn A LOT on the internet. The secret to their successes vary, but there are some general tips that helps one get an edge over the competition.

The internet market has become ferociously competitive. Most people use Google adsense, which is the market leader in online ads, to earn online by giving Google a slot on the webpage to place ads in. Adsense places ads in the slot that are most related to your website’s content.

To get better income on your website, the first 'must have' for your website is content. If your website lacks content, no matter how hard you try to attract visitors, you won't. You also need to know exactly what your website will have to offer because if it is on a topic that is famous, like celebrity gossip, it has more chances of getting clicks than if it offers a topic that few people are likely to be interested in, like ‘how to clean your ceiling fan!’

Your website needs to offer people what they want to see, not what you want them to see because you cannot force them into viewing your website. You can trick them, but you can't force them. And tricking people is not advisable, because it doesn’t get you regular visitors, it makes your website infamous.

Many people, especially bloggers, use a technique called Search Engine Optimization (SEO), which helps them attract more traffic to their blogs by helping them improve their ratings in search engines.

The general rule is that the higher your website is in the search engine’s ratings, the better your chances of attracting visitors. Web surfers usually click on the websites that appear on the first few pages of their searches. Very few people go beyond the fifth page on search engines and most people usually don't look beyond the first page. Therefore, the earlier your website shows up on the search engine, the better your chances of getting clicked.

The secret to successful SEO is quite simple, though applying it is not as much. SEO uses words in the website’s text and meta tags that people usually search for.

Like all traditional businesses, websites also need to be promoted and advertised. Several websites offer free ad placements for blogs and websites. You can also invite people to visit your site by telling them about it on social networking sites and chat groups.

A successful website that pays you well with adsense is one where all these tips are employed in the right way and where you get regular visitors. Google adsense pays you according to both page impressions and clicks on its ads. Ofcourse, if a visitor clicks on a google ad on your web page, you will earn more, but if there are enough visitors that the ads get seen enough (how much is enough is for google to decide though) you will also get paid for page impressions. Also the higher your website is ranked in google’s database, the higher you will be paid for the ads that are placed on your website.
